This paradise attracts a small number of tourists despite the fact that the jungle landscape is exotic, there is great biodiversity, and the beaches are white and uninhabited. Palomino is near the entrance to the Sierra Nevada National Park and near the Indigena Resguardo, or Indigenous Reserve.
It is located in the Transversal del Caribe, on the banks of the Palomino River, near the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Palomino is the border point between La Guajira and the Department of Magdalena. It is 26 km from the municipal headquarters of Dibulla, 90 km from Riohacha and 72 km from Santa Marta.
Its territory has all the thermal floors, from the sea level to the perpetual snow of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. It limits to the north with the Caribbean Sea, to the east with the corregimiento of Rioancho, to the south with the department of César and to the west with the department of Magdalena.
